A Couple Pinterest Successes & One Fail

After being invited to a Halloween Party to celebrate this year, I went straight to my Pinterest boards and started looking through what I had recently pinned. Cakes, cupcakes, appetizers – you name it, I pinned it. I ended up choosing to “try and make” graveyard cupcakes, a layer cake with a chocolate ganache & spider deviled eggs. Out of these three I had two sort of successes and one epic fail. I’ll share the success stories first.

The graveyard cupcakes were easy enough – bake chocolate cupcakes, use green food coloring for the icing and write ‘RIP’ and ‘BOO’ on an Oreo cookie and stick it on. Easy and delicious – plus they looked great on the dessert table!
The deviled eggs – really easy and simple. Make deviled eggs however you like your mixture; I use mayonnaise, mustard, salt, pepper and paprika. Cut black olives in half for the spider body and smaller pieces for the legs. My eggs were a bit small, so I could only fit 3 legs on each side. Still looks great!

And now for the fail – not a complete failure, but I still wouldn’t call it a success.

The final result was after round two of attempting the chocolate ganache. Although it didn’t come out perfect, it tasted great. I think the fact that helped was the cannoli cream between the layers of cake – YUM. I baked four round cakes, let them cool down and then stacked them up with cannoli. I iced the cake with plain vanilla icing and did my best with making the ganache look like blood. The last touch was sticking a knife through the center.

Let me know what you guys think of my Pinterest attempts and feel free to share some of your success (or failing) stories!
